How Great Is The Hobby Of Stamp Collecting?. Indeed there is no doubt about stamp collecting being the Greatest Hobby On Earth.

What is Stamp Collecting or Philately?.. Stamp Collecting or Philately as it is called is the pursuit of collecting, arranging and studying postage stamps, stamped envelopes and other items used in various Countries of the World at different times to effect prepayment of letters through the Post.

Stamp Collecting unlike games of football, cricket and squash-racket is a pastime that attracts not only the interests of adults but children alike. Kings, Queens, the rich and the poor

It is a mistaken belief to regard Stamp Collecting as only Children Hobby.It may interest you to learn that participation at certain stages of the hobby are very much beyond the capacities of children as would their participation in test cricket matches etc.

Stamp Collecting or Philately is the study of stamps, their production. It has developed into two broad groups – those who collect and study stamps and those who collect stamps as souvenirs.

A new collector may not be sure of what kind of stamps to collect. It is however advisable that he should acquire and study as many different stamps as he can because the experience gained will help him to grasp the fundamentals of the subject.

Later on, he can decide upon concentrating on a single country’s issues or those of a group. To engage in this hobby, physical condition is of no vital importance as very little actual physical energy is required to carry it on and money does not always determine the value of a collection to its owner.

Often no money at all is involved except perhaps for an album and stamp collecting accessories. A stamp off a letter from a foreign country can be of as much value to a true collector as a rare and high-priced stamp might be to on me who can spend hundreds of us$ to indulge in his hobby.

Just like any other hobby, the real value of a collection comes from the use made of it by its owner. A small collection of a few hundred common stamps may give a greater thrill out of having such a collection than would a rich man who has spent  hundreds of us$ merely to have a ‘Display Collection..

Here indeed is a hobby that can be tailored to fit the needs of any individual. One from which almost endless hours of fun, relaxation, education and pride of ownership can be extracted.

Perhaps the easiest way to ‘build’ a collection is to exchange one’s surplus stamps with other collectors. This sort of exchange goes on everyday among thousands of collectors worldwide

Once described as the most famous unknown artist in America, Johnson was a legend partly for his work (in which he incorporated pop art images, collage, rubber stamps, and any number of other elements in a unique and groundbreaking manner), partly for his striking sense of humor (he once accepted an offer of 1,500 dollars for a piece after someone had offered to pay 2,000 dollars -- but cut 25 percent of the painting away before sending it to its new owner), and partly for his unique behavior (which many saw as a variety of performance art, including his suicide, after which he was found drowned in Sag Harbor -- with a treasure trove of unseen artwork carefully arranged in his home). PEE-WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE $5.92 Co-written by Paul Reubens and Phil Hartman, Pee Wee's Big Adventure marks the debut of director Tim Burton, who stamps the entire film with his quirky trademark style. The premise: Pee Wee (Reubens), an overgrown pre-pubescent boy sporting a molded Princeton cut, blush, lipstick, and a shrunken gray flannel suit, lives an idyllic life in his bizarre home (some have compared the remarkable set design to the expressionistic The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari) until someone nabs his most prized possession: a fire engine-red customized bicycle. He then embarks on an epic cross-country search to find his lost love, not to mention more than a little adventure. Along the way, he makes friends with various oddball characters, visits the Alamo, endures various hallucinatory nightmares, and has a supernatural run-in with a spectral trucker. In this reprisal of his popular standup routine, Reubens is wonderful as the nerdy man child; he plays it silly, yet he manages to imbue the role with some sensitivity without ever seeming maudlin. The score by Danny Elfman is terrific -- as is the case in nearly every film Burton has directed -- and the script is fresh and inventive. Some of the most memorable moments: the opening sequence involving Pee Wee's morning activities is a stroke of genius (note the bunny slippers and talking breakfast), as are the scenes at the truck stop, and the Hollywood version of Pee Wee's story at the end (starring James Brolin and Morgan Fairchild in surprise cameos). MIRACLE AT ST ANNA $12.74 Spike Lee's World War II film Miracle at St. Anna begins in 1983 with Hector Negron, a veteran of that war, unexpectedly shooting a customer dead. Police discover that the suspect, a quiet postal worker, kept a statue head worth millions of dollars in his apartment. An eager young reporter (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) interviews Negron in his cell about the mysterious artifact. While serving in the all-minority 92nd Buffalo Soldier Division, Negron and three comrades managed to sneak deep into enemy territory in Italy. One of the men, Sam Train (Omar Benson Miller), picked the head up while they were serving in Florence and believes it brings him good luck. Negron (Laz Alonso), Train, and Bishop Cummings (Michael Ealy), along with their sergeant, Aubrey Stamps (Derek Luke), take refuge in the Italian village of St. Anna, harbored by locals who are resisting the Nazis -- who themselves surround the area. Train also protects an injured Italian boy he discovers while investigating a seemingly abandoned dwelling. Eventually, the soldiers make contact with their superiors, and are ordered to capture a German so that he may be interrogated about an upcoming attack. Lee adapted Miracle at St. Anna from a novel by James McBride, who also penned the screenplay. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi Movie Guide resistance movement, and it's easy to get a bit lost in this Byzantine tale. Still, Lee is never anything less than passionate about his subjects, and with MIRACLE AT ST. ANNA he brings that fire to a story that took decades to come to the big screen. Perhaps not the most definitive Spike Lee Joint, MIRACLE remains a noteworthy film in the canon of one of America's most important filmmakers.
